About Our Campaign
On July 10 th 2013, Canadians will witness one of the greatest anniversaries of Canadian forces during the Second World War. On that day in 1943, the largest armada in contemporary history, to that date, carried allied soldiers to the beaches of Sicily in Operation Husky.
The Citizen’s Campaign has as its mission to “honour those who fought and those who fell in Sicily” during the summer of 1943. The organization is not affiliated with any government organization or lobby group.
With each passing year, fewer veterans of the Sicilian Campaign survive to witness Remembrance Day ceremonies. Most feel July 10th was forgotten. Over shadowed by D-Day in 1944, the sacrifices of these men have gone largely unnoticed. While honouring the remaining survivors, this activity and the public relations initiatives undertaken during its preparations, will pay tribute to the fallen Canadians and keep alive the memory of the sacrifice made by all those who fought in the second Great War.
